I did something phenomenally stupid and I've been totally upset about it. I developed a large (lemon sized lump) that I assumed was an ovarian cyst a couple of years ago. After a year of herbal supplements finally dissolved but leaked on it's way out and created an infection in my fallopian tubes that I have been struggling with for over a year now. I've tried everything under the sun to cure it. When nothing else worked, about a month ago, I ordered a bottle of what I thought was colloidal silver over the internet to use as a douche which I did for 10 days. As it turns out, colloidal silver products are not regulated by the FDA (I did not know this) and the way this particular batch was produced is with a high voltage method that apparently creates "silver nitrate". Silver nitrate is the cause of argyria - skin turning permanantly gray or blue. Because the product is not FDA regulated there is no way to know the exact strength of the product in the bottle that I ordered.
I am mortified! I don't have a clue how much silver or nitrate is in my system but I've been drinking massive volumes of water to cleanse my system.
So anyway, I went to a doctor in Knoxville Tuesday to see what the heck I had really done to myself. The good news is all of my "cysts" and the infection are gone. They ran labs on my kidneys and liver for wellness and I wont get the results for a couple of weeks but they don't expect anything negative. There isn't a lab here that does testing on silver in the system and apparently it can't be removed anyway. So they say.......I'm drinking water like crazy all the same. What I thought were cysts the doctor seems to think were lymph nodes and possibly cancer. There is no visible sign of it being active now (only scarring from whatever it was) but the labs will be back in a couple of weeks.
I am not looking for sympathy or scolding. This is a cautionary tale to anyone who may be considering taking silver products. Like many Americans, I don't have and can't afford health insurance and don't qualify for assistance. I thought I had done my research. I have been a life long vegetarian, I rarely drink, never smoke, don't eat preservatives or sugar. I have been studying herbal medicines since I was a teenager and have read countless books, studies, etc... I read everything I could find on colloidal silver for nearly 8 months before using it and even then I did not know that there are numerous methods of production that completely change the composition of the silver in the product.
I have been in contact with a woman who has had argyria most of her life and she assures me that I am "probably" going to be okay. But the truth is, we may not know the full extent of damage (if any) for many more weeks or months. It is irreversible. That is certain.
If you or anyone you know is using or considering using silver please tell them my story and urge them to quit!
